About Us
We are Tanua and Gary Mooring. We have 5 wonderful kids, 4 of which are married to fantastic spouses, and one finishing up college. We have 9 grandkids that bring us many hours of joy. We have been richly blessed by God to have our kids, kids in law's, and grandkids. All of them are good kids. Not a bad one in the whole bunch.
We have been raising livestock for both show and food for many years on our 2 1/2 acre place. We are now starting to develop a 12 acre farm in Dayton, Texas. We have been involved with 4H and FFA programs since the kids were young and started showing different livestock in our area shows. As we have gotten older, we have become concerned about our health, and with the poor quality of our food supplies and concerned about the quality of our public meat supply. This has led us to take action and improve our food by raising some of it ourselves.
We got into rabbits when the kids were young and involved with 4H and FFA. No matter how small your backyard, you can raise rabbits. A lot of people only view rabbits as a pet, but rabbit meat is one of the healthiest meats you can eat and very easy to process yourself. We offer clinics for 4H and FFA groups on raining rabbits for show and as a food supply.
We got into German Shepherds after we lost an elderly parent to crime. We realized how we can become more of a victim as we get older. So, raising and training high quality bloodlines of German Shepherd dogs, that offer not only love but also protection for our family, became our passion. The German Shepherd dog is a loving friend that will protect you and your family to the very end.
We got into goats after a family member passed away and needed to rehome their herd. We now have a wonderful herd of Nigerian and pygmy cross goats. Nigerian goats are known for milk and pygmy goats are known for meat. Several in our herd have beautiful blue eyes. We have found that this breed of goats are not picky eaters, make good pets and lawnmowers.
Year 2019, bees were introduced into our farm plans. They are fascinating creatures. Our bees are not aggressive and provide lots of pollination and honey. In the near future, we plan to sell bees and honey.
Along with our love of our farm, and raising our dogs and livestock, we both have a really bad fishing addiction. We also love hunting, but fishing is very high on our list.
